Watch The First 4 Minutes Of HBO Max's Aquaman: King Of Atlantis

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is an upcoming DC animated television show that will be streaming on HBO Max. The tone of the show is very lighthearted and comedic, which is in contrast to the darker and more serious route of many DC projects, and now fans can get a taste of what to expect from the animated series thanks to a four-minute preview.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis looks to be loosely following the origin of the character, which generally involves Arthur Curry returning to his homeworld to claim the throne of Atlantis from his nefarious half-brother. After taking the throne, Atlantis was in a much better place and Aquaman himself was in a better mental space, as he finally accepted who he was.

In the recently released clip from the first episode of King of Atlantis, Aquaman's first day as King is clearly filled with struggles. The animation style is really different from most DC projects, but it aims to make a point at showing that the series is not taking itself seriously. The clip pokes fun at a multitude of things, including Aquaman not being able to properly sit on the throne, all of the king's tasks, the crowd not cheering, the trial that allows one to challenge the throne, and even a quick and comedic fight scene.

The show is shaping up to be something that DC is not typically known for, so hopefully, it pans out well. For those who haven't seen much of this show, think of an underwater version of Teen Titans GO!. Fans who really want to see more can check it out on HBO Max this October.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis will release on a weekly basis, with the first episode debuting on October 14th. Expect to see a little bit of this show at the upcoming DC FanDome 2021 event, in addition to the upcoming live-action Aquaman sequel film.

Seeing Aquaman get his just due after previously being seen as a joke character is a welcome change. Aquaman was ridiculed partly due to his appearance in Super Friends and parodies such as Robot Chicken, which largely made fun of his superpowers and campy/boy scout personality. Now it seems the character is being taken more seriously, slowly rising to the ranks of Batman and Superman.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be available on HBO Max starting October 14th, 2021.
