This past week, YouTube streamer and content creator Dr Disrespect had a falling out with battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone. Dr Disrespect even went so far as saying Activision and Raven Software should scrap the new Caldera map. But Dr Disrespect may have found a new battle royale to replace Call of Duty: Warzone. In a recent stream, Dr Disrespect played a closed beta version of Super People, a new battle royale. The YouTuber liked what he played of Super People, and intends to "get good" in it over time.
Following a session of Super People, Dr Disrespect responded to a question from his chat asking for him to summarize his thoughts. Dr Disrespect wasn't aggressively positive about his experience, but he did have good things to say about Super People. "I really like it," said Dr Disrespect, characterizing his enjoyment of Super People as a "breath of fresh air" following his recent frustrations playing Call of Duty: Warzone.
More complimentary are Dr Disrespect's plans for his future with Super People. He says that he really wants to "get good with the game," and that playing it "makes me want to get good." He then recognizes challenging aspects of Super People's gameplay that are worth learning better, describing it as "fluid" how players are able to use heal, use items, craft, and still play aggressively. "Watching the best players do their thing, it makes me want to get better," says Dr Disrespect. "I have to get super fluid to win."
While Dr Disrespect is certainly excited about his time with Super People and he confirms he'll be playing more in the future, his comments are atypically constrained given his frequent exaggerations and strong language. He doesn't necessarily say that he'll be playing Super People over other battle royale games, even Call of Duty: Warzone. He doesn't describe Super People as better than other battle royales, or anything of the sort. But for Dr Disrespect to acknowledge a new game's potential is no doubt a positive for the upcoming battle royale.
Dr Disrespect is popular enough that he alone could change the direction of Super People's future. The genre of battle royales is extremely saturated and entering the market is difficult, with attention from large streamers all but required to establish a game. This could be a key moment in Super People's build toward launch.
For the time being, Super People does not have a release date, either for early access or full launch. It's currently in closed beta and interested battle royale players can go to the game's Steam profile and request to join with the click of a button. Otherwise, expect to hear news regarding Super People later in 2022.
Super People is available in closed beta on PC.
