Kirby and the Forgotten Land Screenshots Highlight Co-Op Mode

For the most part, the Kirby franchise has remained a 2D side-scrolling affair, but that's going to change with the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Quite possibly the most ambitious Kirby release to date, the Switch exclusive Kirby and the Forgotten Land is finally transitioning the franchise into the 3D platformer space, and the gameplay footage released for it has been quite promising so far.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land trailers have left fans buzzing about how well Kirby gameplay features seem to be translating from 2D to 3D. The latest trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land is no exception, being met with a positive reaction from the community as many fans remark on the colorful art style and how Kirby's various copy abilities may impact gameplay. The latest trailer also confirmed a brand new feature as well in the form of local co-op.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land has co-op support for up to two players, as revealed by the latest Kirby and the Forgotten Land trailer. Nintendo is now giving fans an even closer look at the Kirby and the Forgotten Land co-op mode with a quartet of screenshots that show co-op in action.

The first screenshot shows Kirby standing alongside Bandana Waddle Dee, with the first player controlling Kirby and the second player controlling Waddle Dee, not unlike how co-op has worked in some past Kirby video games. The other three screenshots show Kirby and Waddle Dee fighting enemies, with Kirby using copy abilities to take out foes and Waddle Dee utilizing his signature spear.

Since Waddle Dee can't absorb enemies, he won't have nearly as much functionality as Kirby, but he should still be fun enough for a co-op partner to play as come the game's launch. He will definitely be more involved than, say, Bowser Jr. in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, where the second player was severely limited when compared to the first player.

It remains to be seen how fans will react to Kirby and the Forgotten Land's co-op when they actually get their hands on it, but what's been shown so far has been plenty impressive. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is definitely one of the biggest Nintendo Switch exclusive games set to launch in 2022, and while it remains to be seen if it's going to live up to the hype, it seems to have quite a bit of momentum behind it so far.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches March 25, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
