Several popular Twitch streamers have been getting banned lately, showing how even those with the largest audiences can be subject to forced time off. One content creator and new Twitch streamer known as Comment Etiquette has just gotten banned from Twitch because of something they said that is known for causing bans.
Twitch streamer Comment Etiquette was recently writing a script to scary music during a livestream, in which they said "cracker," a word that goes against the website's terms of service, causing a 30-day ban. According to Comment Etiquette, the ban comes following his use of a racial slur that others have been banned from Twitch for using.
Other notable livestreamers that have been banned for using the term include popular Twitch streamers Hasan Piker and Froste, who both maintain a large audience just like Comment Etiquette. Perhaps trying to prove a point, Comment Etiquette has made content recently that criticized social media platforms for banning folks who use racial terminology, but the Twitch ban seems unassociated with that content. The Twitch streamer moved to Amazon's streaming platform after several years on YouTube, and he hasn't created content on the video-sharing website in over two weeks.
Having only recently taken to Twitch to expand his audience beyond YouTube and Twitter, Comment Etiquette has been criticized for having already been banned. Considering that the Twitch streamer was already aware of the possible ban based on the language he was using, it remains unclear if Comment Etiquette was anticipating the ban. Taking a lighthearted approach to letting his audience know how long he'll be away, Comment Etiquette laughed with his community over the month-long ban.
Comment Etiquette is known for making content full of profanity, memes, and sarcasm, but his use of language may not be suitable for Twitch and its bannable offenses. Comment Etiquette's most recent YouTube video also featured the same word that he was banned for using on Twitch, which suggests that he may eventually be punished on the Google platform as well. It's unlikely that Comment Etiquette will change his sense of humor after returning to Twitch, but the ban may cause him to avoid certain terms and topics.
Many members of Comment Etiquette who were watching live may have anticipated his temporary removal from the platform. The Twitch streamer has only been banned from the livestreaming platform once while other Twitch streamers like xQc, Amouranth, and Destiny have been struck multiple times. Some of Comment Etiquette's fans have expressed support for the Twitch streamer during the 30-day ban, while others have defended Twitch's action.
